What the Exam Involves
A driver's medical exam involves a physician's assessment of the information required for the applicable licensing or medical report. Depending on the form and licensing requirement, the assessment may include review of medical history, medications, vision, hearing and other health information relevant to fitness to drive.

Commercial Driver Medicals — Class 1, 2, 3 & 4
Class 1 (semi-trailer trucks), Class 2 (buses), Class 3 (larger trucks) and Class 4 (taxis, ride-share and small buses) all require a Medical Examination Report as part of MPI's professional licensing process, in addition to the standard requirements for a private licence.
How Often You Need One
For Class 1, 2, 3 and 4 commercial licences, Manitoba requires periodic medical reports according to age. Medical reports are generally required every five years to age 45, every three years from age 46 to 64, and annually from age 65 onward. Drivers with certain medical conditions may be required to provide reports more often.
What MPI Requires
The Medical Examination Report must be completed by a physician or nurse practitioner and is valid for six months from the date it's signed; authorized instruction for a new commercial licence must be completed within that window. Manitoba Health does not cover the cost of this exam — The current clinic fee is $150 for Class 1, 2, 3 and 4 commercial driver's medicals. Completed forms are submitted to MPI by fax.
Senior Driver Medicals
Manitoba does not require passenger-vehicle drivers to undergo a medical examination simply because they reach a particular age. A medical review may be required when a medical condition, change in health, self-report or other concern affects driving fitness. Commercial Class 1–4 drivers have separate age-based medical-report requirements, as outlined above.
Medical Conditions & Driver Reporting
Certain medical conditions can affect a person's ability to drive safely and may require medical reporting to Manitoba Public Insurance. Physicians and optometrists are required to report medical conditions that could impair a person's ability to drive safely. Examples can include conditions affecting vision, physical or cognitive function, or conditions that may cause a sudden loss of awareness.

Concordia Medical Centre provides occupational and pre-employment medical exams for employers. The current fee is $150 per exam, with paperwork typically completed within 1 to 2 days.

What's Included
A pre-employment physical includes a general medical assessment relevant to the employer's requirements. Any additional testing or documentation requested by an employer can be discussed with the clinic when scheduling. Paperwork is typically completed within 1 to 2 days.

Is a driver's medical covered by Manitoba Health?

What should I bring to my appointment?

How long does it take for MPI to receive my results?
Completed forms are submitted to MPI by fax. The clinic has not confirmed a specific MPI processing or receipt timeframe, so no turnaround time is published here.
Do senior drivers need a medical every two years in Manitoba?
No. Manitoba does not have a blanket rule requiring all passenger-vehicle drivers to complete a medical every two years based only on age. Medical reporting may be required when a health condition or other concern affects driving fitness. Commercial Class 1–4 drivers have separate age-based medical-report requirements.
