Travel Clinic Winnipeg Services
A travel consultation is an opportunity to review your planned trip and vaccination history before you leave Winnipeg. The physician can review your destination, regions you plan to visit, length of stay and planned activities, along with any available immunization information.
Based on the consultation, the physician can advise which vaccinations and travel-health precautions may be appropriate for your itinerary.
If you have previously received vaccinations elsewhere, bring any available immunization records so they can be considered as part of the assessment.
Bring to your appointment: a copy of your itinerary, your immunization record if you have one, and a list of current medications.
Travel Vaccines
Travel vaccines are available at Concordia Medical Centre as part of travel health services. A physician will review the travel plans and determine which vaccinations may be appropriate for the specific trip.
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A vaccination may be recommended as part of travel health planning. The physician will review the travel destination and itinerary when determining whether it is appropriate.
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B vaccination may be considered as part of travel health planning. The physician will assess the travel itinerary and individual vaccination history when determining whether it is appropriate.
Hepatitis A and B Combined (Twinrix)
Twinrix combines hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccination. It may be considered when protection against both infections is appropriate for the traveller.
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap)
Tdap vaccination may be reviewed as part of a travel consultation, particularly when routine immunization is not up to date.
MMRV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella)
MMRV vaccination may be reviewed when a traveller's immunization history is incomplete or unconfirmed. The physician will review the available vaccination history as part of the assessment.
HPV (Gardasil)
HPV vaccination is not specific to travel, but vaccination status may be reviewed as part of routine or catch-up immunization planning.
Vaccine availability and recommendations depend on the travel itinerary and individual vaccination history.</strong> For current vaccine pricing and other travel-related fees, contact Concordia Medical Centre before your appointment.
Malaria Prevention
Malaria risk varies by country, region and season. Travel health advice can include a review of malaria risk for the itinerary. Ask the clinic during your travel consultation whether malaria prevention should be considered for your trip.
Malaria prevention also includes non-medication measures — insect repellent, permethrin-treated clothing and sleeping under a net where recommended — which the physician will review alongside any prescribed medication. Since typhoid, rabies, Japanese encephalitis, meningococcal and Dukoral vaccines are not stocked at this clinic. These vaccines are not stocked at Concordia Medical Centre. If one is recommended for your itinerary, ask the clinic about available options for obtaining it elsewhere.
Travel Health by Destination
General guidance for a few commonly travelled destinations is below. This is a starting point, not a substitute for a personal travel consultation — actual recommendations depend on the specific region visited, trip length, activities and each traveller's own health history.
Mexico
Travel to Mexico may require a review of routine immunizations, travel vaccines and food and water precautions. Recommendations depend on the destination within Mexico, length of stay and planned activities.
India
Travel to India may require a broader review of travel vaccines and other health precautions. Recommendations depend on the regions visited, length of stay and activities.
The Philippines
Routine vaccines, hepatitis A and typhoid are commonly recommended, with additional vaccines considered based on region, trip length and rural travel. Food and water precautions apply broadly. Malaria risk exists in some regions outside major cities and resort areas; a consultation will confirm relevance to a specific itinerary.
Southeast Asia
Travel to Southeast Asia may require destination-specific vaccine and health advice. Recommendations vary between countries and regions, as well as according to trip length and planned activities.
Travel recommendations are individualized according to the itinerary and traveller's circumstances.
Routine & Catch-Up Immunizations
Beyond travel-specific vaccines, the clinic also provides routine and catch-up immunizations for both adults and children.
Adult Immunizations
Commonly given adult immunizations include tetanus/diphtheria (with pertussis boosters as recommended), shingles vaccine for older adults, pneumococcal vaccine for those at increased risk, and the annual influenza (flu) shot. A physician can review which of these are due based on age, health history and previous immunization records.
Childhood Immunizations
Children are immunized according to the Manitoba Health childhood immunization schedule, covering diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella and others as scheduled by age. Catch-up immunization is available for children who have missed doses or are new to the clinic without a complete record.
