Are We Accepting New Patients?

Concordia Medical Centre is currently accepting new patients into family practice care, with no waitlist. In Manitoba, being "rostered" with a family physician generally means that physician becomes your regular point of contact for ongoing care, while walk-in and other clinics remain available for same-day concerns.

Family Doctor Winnipeg — What Our Family Practice Includes

Family practice care at Concordia Medical Centre covers ongoing, general medical care for patients of all ages, from infants through seniors. Rostering with a family physician means that physician becomes familiar with a patient's history over time and coordinates care across physicals, chronic conditions, referrals and specialist follow-up.

The practice's scope includes general medical consultations, preventive care and screening, chronic disease management, mental health care, women's health, pediatric and prenatal care, and pre-operative clearance, alongside on-site spirometry and EKG testing. Patients are also able to access the clinic's walk-in service and advanced treatments without needing a separate referral.

Our family doctor Winnipeg services provide ongoing primary care for patients of all ages.

Annual Physicals & Preventive Care

A physical exam gives a physician the chance to review overall health, update screening that's due, and catch developing concerns before they become urgent. Regular annual physicals are encouraged for patients of all ages, with the specific content of each exam shaped by age, sex, personal history and family history.

A typical physical may include a review of blood pressure, weight and general health history, along with any screening that's due — such as bloodwork, cervical screening, or referral for imaging like mammography or colon cancer screening once a patient reaches the applicable age range. The physician will also review and update immunizations as needed.

Booking a physical: physicals can be requested by existing patients through the standard appointment process. Request an appointment to get started.

Chronic Disease Management

Ongoing conditions are managed through regular follow-up, monitoring and medication review, rather than a single visit. The goal of chronic disease care at Concordia Medical Centre is steady, coordinated assessment over time, with adjustments made as a patient's situation changes.

Diabetes

Diabetes care includes regular monitoring of blood glucose control, review of current medications, and periodic screening for complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, feet and cardiovascular system. Follow-up intervals are set based on how well a patient's levels are tracking and whether medication adjustments are needed.

High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure management involves regular measurement, review of lifestyle factors, and medication adjustment when readings are running outside target range. Ongoing monitoring helps track how well a patient's current plan is working over time.

Asthma

COPD management includes periodic reassessment of symptoms and lung function, medication review, and guidance on managing flare-ups. Lung function testing is available on site — see Spirometry below.

COPD

Blood pressure management involves regular measurement, review of lifestyle factors, and medication adjustment when readings are running outside target range. Ongoing monitoring helps track how well a patient's current plan is working over time.

Heart Disease & Heart Failure

Ongoing management of coronary artery disease and heart failure includes symptom review, medication management, and monitoring for changes that may need further assessment or specialist follow-up. On-site EKG testing supports this monitoring — see EKG below.

Spirometry & ECG Testing On Site

Spirometry and ECG testing are done on site, ordered directly by your treating physician. There is no separate lab or hospital appointment.

Spirometry
(Lung Function Testing)

Spirometry measures how much air the lungs can hold and how quickly air moves in and out, which helps assess conditions such as asthma and COPD. You breathe into a handheld device following the physician's instructions. It is available during the same visit as a regular appointment.

ECG
(Electrocardiogram, also called EKG)

An ECG records the heart's electrical activity and helps assess heart rhythm and certain signs of heart strain or previous injury. It is commonly ordered when a patient reports palpitations or chest discomfort, or as part of ongoing monitoring for known heart disease. The test takes 15 to 20 minutes and must be booked in advance.

Mental Health Care

Family physicians are often the first point of contact for mental health concerns. Care at Concordia Medical Centre starts with an assessment of symptoms and their impact on daily life, followed by a discussion of management options — which may include the physician's own ongoing care, medication, or referral to counselling and specialist services.

Depression

Assessment covers mood, sleep, energy and daily functioning, using standard screening tools where appropriate. Management options range from lifestyle-focused approaches and counselling referral through to medication, depending on severity and patient preference, with follow-up to review how a chosen approach is working.

Anxiety

Assessment looks at the pattern and triggers of anxiety symptoms and how they're affecting daily life. Management may include counselling referral, medication, or a combination of both, with follow-up visits to reassess as needed.

PTSD & Trauma

Initial assessment of trauma-related symptoms is available through the family practice. The physician tries to assist directly where possible; if a higher level of care is needed, the patient is referred to a psychiatrist.

Stress

Stress that is persistent, affecting sleep, or interfering with daily functioning is worth discussing at an appointment, since it can overlap with — or contribute to — other health concerns. A physician can help assess whether further evaluation or support is appropriate.

ADHD Assessment & Management

Concordia Medical Centre offers ADHD assessment for patients who suspect they, or their child, may have ADHD, along with ongoing management for patients with a confirmed diagnosis.

Assessment typically involves a structured conversation about symptoms, history and how attention, focus or impulsivity are affecting daily life at school, work or home, sometimes supported by standardized questionnaires completed by the patient and, for children, by a parent or teacher.

Who Does the Assessment

ADHD assessment is available through the family practice.

Cost & What Manitoba Health Covers

ADHD assessment is billed to Manitoba Health, unless a patient does not have provincial coverage.

How Long Is the Wait?

Current wait time for an ADHD assessment is approximately 2 to 3 weeks from first inquiry.

Medication & Ongoing Management

Physicians at the clinic prescribe and manage stimulant medication on an ongoing basis following an ADHD diagnosis.

Women's Health

Women's health care at the practice covers routine screening, contraception counselling and menopause management, alongside general family practice care.

Well Woman Exam & Pap Testing

A well woman exam typically includes a general health review alongside cervical screening (Pap testing) where due. The clinic follows a screening interval of every 6 months to 1 year.

Contraception & Birth Control

Physicians provide counselling on contraceptive options, including oral contraceptives, and can discuss whether a longer-acting option such as an IUD is a fit. IUD insertion itself is performed as a minor procedure — see IUD Insertion & Removal on the Minor Surgery & Procedures page.

Menopause

Menopause care includes assessment of symptoms and discussion of management options, including lifestyle approaches and, where appropriate, hormone therapy, based on a patient's individual health history and preferences.

Pediatric

Pediatric care at the practice includes well-child visits, growth and development checks, and childhood immunizations on the standard Manitoba schedule. Pediatric examinations follow age-appropriate milestones, giving parents a chance to raise questions about feeding, sleep, development or behaviour at each visit.Routine and catch-up immunizations for children are available at the clinic; see Routine Immunizations on the Travel Clinic page for the broader immunization offering.

Prenatal

Prenatal care is provided as shared care between the family practice and an OB/GYN. Visits typically include routine monitoring appropriate to each stage of pregnancy, alongside the coordination that shared care involves.

Pre-Operative Clearance

A pre-operative assessment reviews a patient's overall health and any relevant medical history ahead of a scheduled surgery, to confirm they are fit to proceed and to flag anything the surgical team should be aware of. This may include a physical exam, review of current medications, and any testing the surgical team has requested.

Patients who need a pre-operative clearance ahead of a scheduled procedure can request an appointment; bringing details of the planned surgery and the surgeon's requirements helps the visit go smoothly.

Telephone Consultations

Telephone consultations are available for existing patients with a record on file at the clinic, based on patient preference. Patients who are not already established with the clinic are not eligible for a telephone consultation and should book an in-person visit.
